Why is information dating to 2007 and earlier, news?
Why have so many posts connected games cancelled years ago to Kinect, when those events pre-dated MS even acquiring Natal's technology?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
With so many of the main staff gone, it isn't the same Rare from the older days anyway.
You may see the same thing with Team Ninja, if people think they are gonna be the same as before... well we'll see.
Because MundoRare did a recap of all the things that went wrong with Rare before closing down their site, YESTERDAY. Also, the fact that Conker 2 and a SabreWulf game were being considered at one point is news to me.Why is information dating to 2007 and earlier, news?

I like how it backfired. If You treat humans like that, this is what You get. They will speak of the truth and eventually You're screwed.
[QUOTE="KungfuKitten"]Wait? What? I never read anything about mistreating humans in that OP. Ow sorry i always exaggerate when it comes to those things. Haha. Silly me. I mean, that they say no to them while they had such good intentions. Shouldn't do such things, just like that, without a good explanation.I like how it backfired. Most of them went on to found Free Radical, which went under last year and then became part of Crytek.Compared to 10-15 years ago,Rare simply isn't the same company. In personnel or vision.
I'm Pretty sure no key personnel that were with the company that churned out AAA titles every 6 months back in its N64 heyday are still with Rare today.

Shame. Being bought by Microsoft was the worst thing that could have happeneded to Rare none of their games, not even new Banjo Kazooie game, was any good although the vehicle gameplay was entertaining. Funny how a they went from being one of the most revered studios who' s every single game was praised, has been reduced to releasingKinect shovelware and Avatars junk that no one wanted.

Like I said, the company is basically Rare in name only.
Personnel-wise,this is a completely different company that created all those great games back in the day.

Well they still have talent and creativity Viva Pinata, Banjo Kazooie, and Perfect Dark Zero all had great orignal ideas they just need time and expierence to make their games great but, there being dragged down by Microsoft and the quest for casualization. Which is well..dumb.[QUOTE="stvee101"][QUOTE="KamikazeDonut"]

Which is well..dumb.Yeah I agree there is still a lot of talent at the company, those games you listed prove that. But I don't think MS is willing to give them the resourses or time to create many more games like that now.
And they'll never get back to the point of creating critically-acclaimed game after critically-acclaimed game like they did during the n64 period.
man come on rare, ill give them the benefit of the doubt on the doc based on bad pr management but for games? sheesh who wouldnt love a new conker game, but with microsoft moving towards more of a family oriented add campaign the chances of a new conker game drop even more
I don't see what the news is in this thread. Rare turned down a fan group's request to film a documentary that would have required access to their studio and personel? Who cares? I'd imagine that most studios would do the same to any group of random "filmmaking and journalism graduates," even if that group operated a fan site.

Which is well..dumb.Ninja-HippoRare insist that they do not make the decisions about which games to make, and that they *wanted* to be at the forefront of the Kinect launch. I won't lie and I've been trying to rethink my intial WTF thought as I would hate to umm, hate Rare or MS. :?
Perhaps being the major dev where Kinect is concerned is right where they belong giving them some new creative tools on which upon to rise again to greatness and be that very special dev we all new & loved.
It's a Massive.. We shall see.

Microsoft isn't closing down a studio they spent $375 million to acquire. 375 million and they still own all of rare's intellecutall property, i hate to say it but they can buy out studios, take their property, and shut them down. with that said i don't think what their doing is wrong or bad, i've liked the games that have been released, M$ needs some kinect titles so why is it so bad they are focused on that for now?The System Wars game isn't relevant here; metascores are a better metric of developer output, and on the 360 Rare has been a A-AA developer.

Sounds like Microsoft is soon going to close yet another studio.
Anyone surprised? This is what you get with MS...

There's only one way to return Rare back to it's former glory and that's selling it back to Nintendo and I don't think that's happening anytime soon.
Also if Microsoft didn't want Rare to make a Conker Game....why did they buy Rare in the First place?
Not only that but they killed Banjo Kazooie, Haven't even Attempted to bring Killer Instinct back, Perfect Dark has been a sham, and No Battletoads???
Now Banjo Kazooie and Perfect Dark XBLA are alright and so are the Pinata Games and I think Kameo has a great reception but honestly that's only 2 new games that Rare got right for the Xbox. Banjo Kazooie and Tooie and Perfect Dark XBLA are just re-releases of the N64 titles.
Rare isn't what they are anymore.
ok the fansite doesnt even know that the old rare is gone? Rare was gone BEFORE microsoft bought them, microsoft bought the name not the people. golden eye wasnt released because nintedno wouldnt allow it

Rare became a joke years ago. Why 360 fanboys/Rare fanboys never seemed to accept this was beyond me.
JLF1
Yeah, they've only released 3 AA games and 1 AAA game this gen :|
They clearly suck.
other than viva piniata which was fine, nothing special. And Kameo which was good but came out 5 years ago, those games sucked.. ALOT

well yeah most of their Team from the N64 age are gone but that still doesn't make the excuse of why they are so bad now.
did you even read the article? this site broke alot of news and knew what happened for the most part.ok the fansite doesnt even know that the old rare is gone? see that's the whole thinking tho, people compare rare's new games to their old ones (which in their own right were probably the best of their time) but their games don't suck, they're just not as great as they use to be. Kameo was good, viva pinata (haven't played it) i heard was pretty unique but ya perfect dark blew. Basically people set the bar for rare at a higher standard. People calling them a joke/terrible is funny when they've managed AA+ titles. Dead is one thing, but really terrible? maybe compared to what they were but to other developers in this shovelware filled industry? please. They're bad compared to what they were years ago, but as any othe developer in this industry dishing out AA+ titles, id say that's slightly above average if not average. Microsoft likely ruined them, but there were other factors as well.

Yeah I agree, as much as I hated Banjo Kazooie nuts & bolts, I have to give it to them that game was absolutely beautiful. I loved the art design, the way the levels looked everything. Except the gameplay was god awful. Which sucks I think this is an occasion where they didnt even NEED to be creative with it, just make a flipping 3D platformer.. I dont understand why they felt the need to go crazy and make all of this car platforming stuff.. I mean god we havent even gotten a sandbox type 3D platformer since Mario Sunshine about 8 years ago....So theres no need to try and reinvent it right now its not like anyones overloaded or sick of them Im DYING to play another one like that. If we had one where banjo could run, jump, climb and collect notes in environments like that holy crap that would have been amazing.. but oh well...
No, they still have the banjo team.all the talent left rare
how many times must we tell you
at least blizzard closed down blizzard north

[QUOTE="Haziqonfire"]Did you purchase PDZ? How about Kameo (sounds like you did from your statement)? What about Nutz and B? And Viva? That'll probably give you your answer.. I did. That's pathetic how Microsoft manages Rare. Really bad.
Then again, Rare has been dead for quiet some time, even before Microsoft's buyout, when a lot of core people left the team. They aren't the same as they used to be, definitely.
Kameo was good, but definitely not up to par as other Rare titles from the past. Same goes for BK: Nuts and Bolts (imo). Perfect Dark Zero seemed pretty awful from the demo, but I've never played the full game so I don't know.
